The 2013 Seafood Cooking Contest Judges, Contestants, & Guest Blogger!

For years, amateur chefs have been invited to submit recipes for the Maine Lobster Festival’s Seafood Cooking Contest.  The event has gained international attention, most recently covered by   Amateur chefs 18 years and older are welcome to compete for more than $500 in prize money at this popular event!

 

An experienced panel picks five contestants from a wide variety of thoughtful and creative applications to participate in the contest.  Selection is based on creativity, suitability of the seafood to the recipe, and simplicity.  All recipes must contain seafood found in Maine waters.

 

In addition to the food preparation, table placement is also a major factor in the competition.  Participants set their tables with appropriate settings, decorations, and beverages for the judges.

 

Thanks to primary sponsor Bangor Daily News and secondary sponsor Fiore Artisan Olive Oils and Vinegar,  The 2013 Seafood Cooking Contest will take place at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 2 in the North Entertainment Tent. 

 

Contestants and recipes to look for this year include:

 

Gerald Huang, and his Chili Lobster

Tyrrell Hunter (last year’s winner!), and her Spectacular Seafood Cannelloni

John Ruppert, and his Maine Lobster Mac-N-Cheese

Adam Marcus, and his Owls Head Lobster Etouffe

Justin Libby, and his Buzzy Lobster Casserole

 

Judges for the contest include a number of celebrities, both local and “from away”:

 

Lynn Archer, Owner of The Brass Compass and Archer’s on the Pier

Allison Fishman Task, host of the Yahoo! Original Program, Blue Ribbon Hunter

Melanie Beckett, editor of Maine Food and Lifestyle Magazine

 

We are also happy to welcome Fia Fortune of BDN Maine Blogs’ Fia’s Maine Kitchen as the contest’s guest blogger.  Fia is a food blogger and recipe writer who loves the challenge of integrating new and unusual ingredients with traditional home-style cooking.
