Rockland, Maine is a popular summer destination for many people, and everyone has a preferred mode of transportation. Here are some of the most common questions we answer when lobster lovers plan their trips to the Maine Lobster Festival:

Where is Rockland, Maine?

Rockland is located on the Penobscot Bay in the Gulf of Maine. It is about 2 ½ hours northeast of Portland, Maine. Surrounding towns include Rockport, Camden, Thomaston, Owls Head, and Warren.

Where can I stay?

There are many hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, vacation rentals, and campgrounds in and around Rockland. Some of these accommodations, like the Tradewinds Motor Inn (pictured below) and the Navigator Motor Inn, are a short walk to the festival grounds. Others are within an easy driving distance of the festival grounds, offering you a little more peace and quiet during your visit to Maine.

What airport should I fly into?

That’s a great question. Coastal Maine towns have few options for air travel, but we suggest one of these four airports:

Knox County Regional Airport

Knox County Regional Airport is the closest airport to the Festival grounds in nearby Owls Head, Maine. Cape Air flies scheduled commercial flights between this airport and Boston Logan International Airport.

Portland International Jetport

Today, Portland International Jetport is one of the national’s fastest growing airports with more than 1.6 million passengers a year. The Jetport is about 80 miles from Rockland, which is a 2-hour drive. Renting a car in Portland is essential if you choose to fly into Portland.

Bangor International Airport

Bangor International Airport is a friendly, hassle-free airport north of Midcoast Maine. Bangor, Maine is about 67 miles from Rockland, and offers a scenic drive along Maine’s Midcoast.

Logan International Airport in Boston, MA

Logan Airport is about 181 miles from Rockland, Maine, but since it is a large airport, you’ll have a wider range of flights and prices available. Of course, you will need to rent a car once you arrive, but that will be beneficial for seeing more of Maine during your visit!
