Maine Lobster Festival Donates $950 to Trekkers

Posted: 10/21/14

The Maine Lobster Festival is a colorful and enjoyable event that builds community spirit and enhances the community. It is a non-profit activity run entirely by volunteers. No one gets paid for their efforts. The rewards are the satisfaction of mutual involvement and the pleasure of knowing the proceeds support our community in many ways.

On Tuesday, September 30th, the Maine Lobster Festival contributed $950 to Trekkers. Trekkers is a non-profit, outdoor-based mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education (mission statement of Trekkers found at www.trekkers.org)

The Lobster Festival donation is to support the College/Career Exploration program for 11th grade students. This 5-month program will help students identify and learn more about post-secondary and career options. In addition to exploring over 20 colleges, art schools and trade schools from Maine to Pennsylvania, students in this program gain insight into the college application process and discuss topics such as financial aid and return on investment. During a culmination expedition, the students compare the colleges they visit.
