The 2021 Maine Lobster Festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19. We hope to see you August 3-7, 2022.

Coronation Banquet - Friday July 27 6PM

Posted: 7/17/12

This year the Coronation Banquet will be Friday July 27 at 6:00pm at the Samoset. The Maine Lobster Festival invites everyone who is interested in attending to call Sharon Lombardo (207-594-4559)  to make their reservations. The cost is $27 and includes the entire meal, drinks are extra and a cash bar will be available.

The Coronation Judges banquet is the last time the judges can evaluate the sea princesses. All the girls sit on stage and one by one come down to the microphone to answer questions posed to them by the panel of judges. Each judge asks a question and the girls answer questions from one judge at a time for three minutes. Some of the questions at past events were 'quiz questions' for example, "What do you call a lobster that is caught that only has one claw?" to questions that require a well thought out opinion regarding the lobstering industry or Maine in general. These questions are prepared by each individual judge and are not scripted or shared with anyone from the Coronation Committee, the Board or the girls prior to the event. The purpose of the questions is to prepare the girls for the many events the selected Sea Goddess will attend so they can talk to the public about Maine and Lobstering.
This last judging takes place after dinner. Among the guests are Rockland City Councillors, local state legislators and the Navy and/or Coast Guard brass. Sharon Lombardo starts the judging event by introducing our guests and the President of the Festival Board Tim Carroll who says a few words, then the directors and members of the board that are present are recognized. After all that the judging begins.

Booklets with the sea princesses pictures, bios and sponsors are on the tables so everyone can follow along and even rate their favorites. It is a very interesting, fun evening not to be missed.

Interested parties may pay at the door, but please call Sharon to make your reservation.
